[edit] 인종에 대한 관점
- 인종주의 (racism 또는 racialism)
- 가장 광범위하게 쓰이는 개념이다. 흔히 인종을 인식하며 그에 대응하는 행동을 하는 것을 가리켜 "인종주의"라고 칭한다. (음 가치적) 그러나 사전 상 "인종주의"는 인종을 하나의 분석적 (생물적 또는 사회적) 개념으로 이해한다는 것을 뜻한다. 흑 민권 운동가인 W. E. Dubois 는 이러한 분석적 태도를 인종주의를 racialism 으로 부르며 가치 중립적으로 보았고, "인종 차별" (Dubois 는 racism을 인종 차별이라 부른다) 은 이러한 인종주의적 태도에서 파생될 수 있는 하나의 가능성으로 인식했다.
- 백인 우월주의 (white supremacy)
- 백인이 생물적으로 우월하다는 사상. 또는, 이러한 사상의 존재를 인지하는 인종 담론.
- 비인종주의 (non-racialism)
- 남아공의 아프리카 국가 의회 (African National Congress, ANC) 가 사용하는 접근법. 투쟁을 인종적으로 접근하지 않고 국가적으로 접근하는 정치 형세 분석법.
- 반 인종 차별주의 (anti-racism)
- 인종 차별을 사회악으로 규정하고 이에 대해 적극적으로 대응하는 운동. 미국에서는 반인종 차별주의 행동위 (Anti Racist Action, ARA)가 활발하게 행동하고 있다.
- 적극적 우대 정책 (Affirmative Action)
- 인종에 기반한 구조적 차별에 대응 하여 유색인종 또는 소수자를 사회 다방면에서 (취업, 입학, 금융등) 우대해야 한다는 주장. 미국에서는 유색 민족의 진전을 위한 국가 협회 (National Association for the Advancement of Colored Peoples, NAACP)와 인종 국가 회의 (National Council La Raza, NCLR)가 이러한 주장 및 행동을 지도하는 거대 단체들이다.
- 무색주의 (color blind)
- 미 공화당의 기본적인 인종 관련 입장. 적극적 우대 정책에 반하며, 실존하지 않는 인종에 대하여 이야기하는 것은 인종 차별을 유지하는 한 방법이라는 주장.
- 사회적으로 구성된 인종 (social construction of race)
- 인종은 생물적으로 무의미하며, 인종의 유일한 의미는 사회적이라는 분석법.

영어권 인종 용어는 크게 미국 계열과 영국에서 파생된 남아공 계열, 그리고 인도와 뉴질랜드 등으로 나뉜다.
