Learning Korean Language

Korean Classes at Work

My name is Yongho Kim. In April 2016, I started getting into Korean language learning circles online, and decided to create a little webpage on my personal website to consolidate online resources needed for teaching Korean with friends and colleagues. Below is information about these classes.

Intermediate Level – Community Organizer role

Goals: establish a natural flow of conversation and expand vocabulary to communicate essential points, be able to supervise Korean speaking volunteers or staff.

Activity: Speaking practice/vocabulary exposure

Watch together Korean dramas and read out the lines to get used to speaking advanced level Korean. Seek dramas with less roman line talk, and more workplace or political/policy talk.

TV dramas suggested by the KakaoTalk group so far:

Activity: Grammar Review

Use TTMIK’s guides starting with Level 2 to practice grammar.

Advanced Level – Communications/Director role

Goals: speak with authority to first generation Korean American organization leaders, reporters, and community members. Talk about policy issues

Methodology: grab past organizational pamphlets and hold a free discussion on the topic, simulate interviews, while providing peer coaching. Watch Korean news coverage and pretend to do a rebuttal interview.

Schedule

These classes are open to KRC staff, intern or volunteers, and take place at KRC’s LA office main hall. Intermediate: Fridays 5pm. Advanced: Thursdays 5pm.
