Oh dear Macalester
I’ve been pondering on grades lately – I really need to raise em a bit if I want to go the internship path this summer. I realized that besides my intro logic class – aka the football player’s gpa booster – I haven’t gotten a single A so far. Not even A-. Expectancy is so high it’s not even funny.
And this semester I chose easy classes, I studied hard, sometimes I even studied for specific tests, and even began drinking coffee! Dude! Last thursday, I got an espresso double! (That kept me up from midnight to 2:20pm) Somehow we need a party system in which smart kids get the most exposure to drugs and drinks – maybe reslife can help here- so that the curve becoms more relaxed.

[Audun Solli] spectacle
Audun Solli: The “spectacle” is a complex term that refers to the mechanisms that the present dominant mode of productions, i.e., capitalism. The spectacle is the source of the only discourse that is used in capitalism, secular society: it’s a celebration of a choice already made about the mode of production. In other words, the spectacle essentially refer to the mechanisms, that uphold capitalism and that allege that no other way so organizing production is possible. Thus, the spectacle’s function in society is “the concrete manufacture of alienation” (#32)., i.e., by consuming spectacles, one is separated/alienated from forming or making one’s own life. // The spectacle constitutes the exercise of power, as defined by Foucault; the spectacle restricts the possible actions, that people can take. // [Very good!]
